Associated Supermarket Group (ASG) has an excellent opportunity for a Staff Accountant. Working as a member in the Finance Department the Staff Accountant is responsible for the correct and timely application of customer/ vendor payments, researching customer/ vendor disputes, preparing aging and other reports, processing vendor repay requests, preparing account analyses and monthly account reconciliations, providing support during the month end close and year end audit, and other accounting duties as required.

Type: Full-Time/Exempt

Location: Hybrid – 3 days in office, Port Washington, NY; 2 days virtual work.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Finance Manager:

Process accurate and timely cash applications.
Follow up on missing remittances for the cash application to be accurate.
Prepare bank reconciliations- look for discrepancies and resolve issues.
Provide support during month end close and year end audits.

Under the guidance of the Collections Manager:

Prepare weekly cash projections.
Prepare weekly aging reports.
Provide weekly analysis of past due balances.
Research customer/ vendor disputes.
Follow up with customers/ vendors on past due balances as required.
Prepare biweekly deduction reports and follow up with C&S for payment.
Track duplicate payments, and process repay requests on a timely basis.

Qualifications

· Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in accounting, bank reconciliation experience and in customer service is preferred.

· Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial reporting standards.

· Proficiency in ERP system, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe and advanced Excel Skills. Must be proficient with VLOOKUP, Pivots, SumIf functions.

· Ability to prioritize tasks to meet weekly deadlines.

· Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends.

· Attention to detail and accuracy in financial analysis and reporting.

· Excellent communication (verbal, written, listening) skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present findings.

· Problem-solving abilities to address complex accounting issues and discrepancies.

· Strong ethical standards and professionalism in handling confidential financial information.

· Adaptability to changing accounting standards and regulations.

Compensation: Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The target hiring range for this position is between $65,000 and $75,000 per annum.
